VICTORIA MEMORIAL

Location: 15 minute walk from Astoria Hotel

Timings: 10 am to 6 pm Closed on Monday

Tickets: Rs 50 to Rs 100

A museum and a park, built around 1920 in the honour of Queen Victoria.
The Victoria Memorial Hall has been turned into a museum that showcases sketches, miniatures, paintings, books, statues, as well as arms.
The gardens are a good place for a stroll and photo shoot.

Stepping outside Victoria Memorial there are a handful of horse drawn carriages locally called as “Tanga” converted to look like chariots from Indian mythology offering joy rides. A sure recommendation for a photoshoot.

INDIAN MUSEUM

Tickets: Rs 50 for adults, Rs 500 for foreigners

Founded in 1814 Indian Museum is the earliest and the largest multipurpose Museum not only in the Indian subcontinent but also in the Asia-Pacific region of the world.

Street shopping: Located few meters away from the Museum is a paradise for shoppers. With more than 5000 plus stalls in one cluster there are shops offering everything one can think of at very reasonable price. A great place to try out your bargaining skills !

BIRLA PLANETARIUM
Location: 1.5 km from Astoria Hotel
Timings Open all days 12 pm to 6.30 pm
Timings: Show  Hindi – 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm Bengali – 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm English – 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm

It is popularly called Taramandal and was built in the year 1962, its the oldest and largest planetarium in Asia and the second largest in the world.
There are regular one hour shows on wonders of the universe and on facts about the galaxies held at the planetarium through the course of the day in three major languages, Hindi, English and Bengali.
